Jersey City Slam is the longest running poetry slam in New Jersey. What is a poetry slam? Poetry slam is a performance poetry competition with up to eight poets battling out for the title of the best poet in Jersey City!

There will not be a National Poetry Slam in 2019 but we are still selecting a 2019 Jersey City Slam Team for the largest regional poetry slam in the history of New Jersey! Jersey City Slam is in the works to bring a large scale poetry competition to Jersey City. This tournament will bring poets and teams from all over the North East and showcase some of the best spoken word poetry in the country. The tournament will be held in the spring. Updates and registration will be posted soon.

The 2019 Jersey City Slam Team will be selected differently than past teams. The team will be formed over the course of four slams. The winner of each slam makes the Jersey City Slam Team. The team will compete at the Jersey City Regional Poetry Slam and other local events. These slams will be open slams, meaning anyone can compete in them. We are expecting slammers to travel and come out of retirement to be apart of this. Poets be prepared to bring your best work!

Not interested in competeting but still want to share something? There is an open mic before the slam open to music, stand-up comedy, poetry and bar tricks.

If you want to slam it's FREE and if you want to watch it's FREE!

So come by Tea NJ, grab yourself a bubble tea and enjoy yourself. Doors open at 6:00 PM and the show starts promptly at 7 PM.
